Holy shit yes.
Look, I know I try to write articles regarding upcoming films and television shows that come across as balanced and informative. I don’t think that I’m
the greatest blogger out there, but I have seen worse. Yet when a role for a book that I unquestionably love is so perfectly cast, I have a hard time keeping my excitement contained.
Ian McShane landed the role of Mr. Wednesday in American Gods.
Holy. Shit. Yes.
If you’ve never read American Gods – well, first off, stop reading my shitty article and get to it – it’s a story regarding the Old Gods basically going to war against the New Gods in America. I don’t want to go any deeper than that. It’s an amazing story by an amazing author (Neil Gaiman) and one of those books I would definitely put on a “Must Read” list. Mr. Wednesday is the most interesting character in the book, and definitely the catalyst for all of the events that make this story work.
Ian McShane has a successful past in scene-stealing roles. He’s most notably known for Deadwood, where he chewed scenes as the cantankerous and conniving saloon owner, Al Swearengen. If you’ve not made yourself familiar with Deadwood, it’s perhaps the finest Western show ever produced, and McShane knocks it out of the park in every episode.
If American Gods is going to work, it will require an amazing effort from whomever plays Wednesday, so this is a great casting.
All opinions are that of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of Deck Ape...or anyone else. Arrr!
