NXT Takeover Dallas: Predictions

NXT Takeover Dallas will be broadcast live on Friday, April 1 (from the same Texas building as RAW and Wrestlemania a few days prior.)

Two international stars will make their NXT in-ring debuts, and the biggest rivalries in NXT will come to a head during what’s sure to be a historic broadcast.

Elias Samson vs. Apollo Crews (Rumored)

This matchup hasn’t been confirmed by WWE.com as of this writing, but NXT 3/23/16 has us thinking it’s a lock for the special. All presumptions aside, this would be a tough one to call. On the one hand, Apollo can’t take the loss after losing his first story with Corbin and then failing to take the NXT title from Finn. On the other hand, Samson is still building his reputation, so losing his first Takeover match is probably a mistake. I’ve been back and forth over the call, but here goes:
Winner: Apollo Crews by a hair.

Austin Aries vs.Baron Corbin

Corbin has proven himself in the last year as a badass, but you don’t bring in a guy the level of Aries to put over the former football player. I’m not sure what Aries’ role will be, but I wish him the best of luck. Corbin will be a big player in the future, and Aries can help him get there.
Winner: Austin Aries

NXT Tag Team Championship: The Revival (c) vs American Alpha

I love American Alpha (despite the stupid name) for the pure wrestling, intensity, and Team Angle by way of the Steiner Bros. aesthetic they have going for them. The Revival on the other hand, are the best parts of an 80s heel tag team (which I also love). This is the closest we will ever get to Steiners vs. Brain Busters in 2016, and I will love every second of it.
Winners: American Alpha with Kurt Angle presenting them the belts

Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Zayn has been brought up to the main roster, so Shinsuke is the favorite to win. That said, what better way for him to leave than to get over the guy that will take his place as the fan favorite? This has a chance to be match of the night, if not the year. I’m so excited to see Shinsuke wrestle that I can’t put it into words. And having him take on my favorite wrestler makes me wish I could be in Texas on Friday.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura

NXT Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs Asuka

In all my time calling NXT matches, I’ve never predicted a Bayley loss. She is my favorite all-time female wrestler, though I can’t tell you exactly why. Her gimmick is directed straight at 12-year-old girls, but when she wrestles, I just get happy. In February I saw an NXT show, and the main event was Bayley vs Asuka vs Emma vs Bliss, and the roof blew off the place when Bayley walked out. Then the remaining debris was hurled into space when she won. She was still signing autographs after I left, and that was 30 minutes after she started swinging the pen. I think Bayley will be called up to the main roster after WrestleMania, making it Asuka’s time to shine.
Winner: Asuka

NXT Championship: Finn Bálor (c) vs Samoa Joe

Finn vs Joe: Part II . . . this time it’s in Texas. Jokes aside, if this is anything like the battle they had in London, it will burn the house down. I don’t think Finn is getting the call up, but I would love Joe to rule over NXT for half a year until someone (Shinsuke Nakamura) rises up to take the belt from him. What I’m wondering about is Finn’s entrance: What form will his demon take?
Winner: Finn Bálor
