Way back in September of 2015, almost four months ago, Hasbro released a new version of their popular game Monopoly, with four sculpted figures as the pieces. The pieces included Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren, and Finn. No Rey.
This got fans and the almighty Internet’s panties in a bunch, demanding an answer as to why the film’s most important character was left out of the game. This turned into a veritable shit storm of controversy, or at least you would think so from all the press it’s getting. Hasbro finally responded with a statement:
The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie’s release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance. Rey is featured in the following Star Wars games: Hands Down, Guess Who and Chess as well as our 6” Black Series figures, 3 3/4” Figures and Vehicles, Black Series Titanium and Micromachines. Additionally, fans will see more Rey product hitting store shelves this month, including 6″ and 12″ Rey action figures. We are thrilled with the popularity of this compelling character and will continue to look for ways to showcase Rey across all of our product lines.”
Still, the Internets are not pleased. This has gone so far that there is a hashtag going around, #WhereIsRey, that is calling out Rey’s absence and noting that the same thing happened last year with Black Widow in last year’s Age of Ultron.
